The 30-days-challenge
On one of my too many business travels recently, I enjoy watching TED talks on my iPad like so many others. And there isn’t a single talk that doesn’t offer some inspiration. By the uniqueness of topics, many talks do not offer much practical advise. When I came across this 3:27 minutes talk from Matt Cutts titled “Try something new for 30 days” I was intrigued by it’s practical application.
I came across many posts by the likes of Leo Babauta which talked about a 30 day period to get a new habit to stick, but for some reason Matt’s talk really got me going on the subject. It’s as simple as trying something new for 30 days - and that sounds just like so much more fun than getting a new habit to stick. After the 30 days you either have an experience, an achievement or a new habit that sticks. Many of the things you may want to try will not last longer than your 30 days challenge, but the experience is invaluable. My first 30 days challenge will be to write a journal every day, and if it’s just a few sentences. My memory is relatively weak and I tend to forget about thoughts, experience and encounters I had. Hopefully the journaling will help me to improve this. Being the geek I am, I certainly got the beautiful Day One app for Mac and iOS to help me with my challenge Primarily I like to just take some time to reflect and once I arrive at the other end of the 30 days, I will decide whether I’ll continue with it. Already collected some other great ideas for my personal 30 day challenges, but the concept is to do one after the other.
